Flying to Lisbon (LIS)
We suggest flying into Lisbon, Humberto Delgado Airport.
The following U.S. airports have frequent, direct flights:
Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)
Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD)
If you need any assistance, please let us know or email us at grant@grantandemily.com.
Getting Around
From Lisbon to Sesimbra: we recommend either renting a car or using Uber/Bolt. Keep in mind, if you choose to rent a car, that automatic cars are limited and a premium. Reserve early!
Although a car rental allows flexibility if you decide to travel around Portugal, before or after the wedding, it is not necessary. Public transport is affordable and efficient. We suggest avoiding driving in areas such as downtown Lisbon or Sintra. These areas are crowded with narrow streets and limited parking. Apps such as Uber and Bolt are affordable and easy to use.
Car Rental
There are plenty of car rental agencies near Lisbon Airport. We have enjoyed using
CAEL Rent A Car
on our previous trips. They will meet you at the airport and shuttle to and from the airport to their rental facility.
Uber/Bolt
Download the app prior to travel.

Weather
In May, the weather in Portugal is generally warm and sunny with occasional showers. Expect highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s or 60s.
Registry
We will not be having a registry. Your presence at our wedding is the only gift we are asking for!
Recommendations for Travel around Portugal
Lisbon
Explore Portugal's beautiful capital city, approximately 30-40 minutes drive north of our venue! We recommend staying in the area near Chaido or Barrio Alto. The historic neighborhood of Alfalma is a lovely area to explore. Time Out Market is their famous food hall with options for everyone! Popular day trips include Belem, Sintra, or Cascais. Be sure to try the popular pastel de nata, visit a Fado show, and enjoy all of the miradouros!
Sesimbra/Azetiao
Visit the nearby fishing town, a 10-15 minute drive, from our venue! Although in May it may be a bit too cold to swim, Sesimbra has a long stretch of beach with a range of restaurants, shops, cafes, and hotels.
Nearby are the beaches of Praias da Figuierinha, Portinho and Galapinhos. Meco is known for big waves and surfing.
The Azetiao region also has a long history of producing wine, with the most famous being the Moscatel, de Setubal. The winery of Catralvos is very close to our venue with several others only a short drive away.
The Rota de Vinhos, the local wine route, offers several self-drive tours.

Porto
About 3 hours north of Lisbon is the second largest city in Portugal, Porto. It is best known for production of port wine. Make sure to spend a day on a Douro River tour where you can visit a variety of local wineries! We enjoyed a similar excursion through air bnb. We suggest traveling by train or bus, both are about the same duration.
Lagos and the Algarve
About 3 hours south of Lisbon is the Algarve region, known for its stunning beaches and cliffs. We visited Lagos, one of the coastal towns in the Algarve region, on our first trip together to Portugal. Be sure to see the Praia do Camilo and the cliffs of Ponta de Piedade!
